Hygiene

description

Maintain your smile

Maintaining excellent dental hygiene is essential during orthodontic treatment.

Poor dental hygiene can cause permanent spots on the teeth (decalcification), dental caries, gum problems such as swelling, pain, bad breath and interfere with orthodontic treatment. All our orthodontic patients receive an initial complete dental hygiene kit. We believe these products are best suited for maintaining clean, healthy teeth and gums during treatment. These products are generally available for purchase at the clinic but equivalent products can also be purchased at the pharmacy. Ask your hygienist.

 The morning

  • After lunch, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Using the electric brush, brush the gum, wire and tooth for 2 minutes, use X-Pur toothpaste for a remineralizing action or a commercial fluoride gel toothpaste.
  • Rinse for 30 seconds (humming time) with Oxyfresh Fluoride Mouthwash or other commercial alcohol-free fluoride mouthwash.
  • Do not rinse with water or drink or eat for 30 minutes to allow mouthwash to work.

Lunch, after a snack and after supper

  • Rinse vigorously with water.
  • Brush with manual orthodontic brush and tooth paste. It is important to brush horizontally below the wire, on the wire, on the tooth above the wire and between the wire and the tooth.

Before going to bed, is it time for cleaning
